Your Generosity Has Changed Your World

Since 2003, our Foundation has raised over $38 million dollars from individuals and organizations in our community. That money was reinvested to enhance your San Antonio River experience. Our project partners —San Antonio River Authority, Bexar CountyCity of San Antonio, and US Army Corps of Engineers— have invested over $384 million in river improvements for our community. Together, our investments have added over $1.5 billion in economic impact through adjacent private investment and development.

    Donald Lipsky

    I-35 Overpass near Camden Street

It’s hard not to smile at Philadelphia artist Donald Lipski’s school of giant fish swimming through the sky beneath the interstate overpass. The cluster of 25 seven-foot-long creatures of hand-painted fiberglass resin are anatomically correct models of long-eared sunfish, native to the river. Impressive by day and stunningly lit from within at night, the glowing fish are a beacon from blocks away, adding color and levity to a once neglected downtown area. A 26th fish is on display in The DoSeum, San Antonio's Museum for Kids, offering an up-close view of the installation’s vibrant detailing.

    COMMISSIONED PUBLIC ART
The San Antonio River Foundation commissioned and funded public artworks for the benefit of our community and in support of our partners in the $384M San Antonio River Improvements Project. All works along the Mission Reach have been donated to the City of San Antonio's public art collection in perpetuity.

2024 Cultural Arts Program: Calls for Artists and Proposals

The San Antonio River Foundation is opening calls for individuals, collectives or organizations who are able to contribute to Confluence Park and San Antonio waterways through visual arts, performing arts and cultural activation programming for our 2024 Cultural Arts Program.

This could include designing and installing a temporary or ephemeral piece of art, musical performances or events, art/craft workshops, facilitating poetry slams or writing hubs, exchange of narratives from historians, art installations, theatrical and dance performances, public lectures, film screenings, or anything else in the creative realm. Our goal is for the events and activities at Confluence Park and throughout the San Antonio River watershed to reflect the best of what San Antonio has to offer while activating various parts of the city.

We believe in providing meaningful opportunities for the public to engage with the natural environment, art, and artists along our local rivers and creeks, and that art is integral to the community. Through this new program, we want to offer community members an experience they will cherish through developing skills, understanding, connections, and memories to foster a community of arts advocates and stewards of the San Antonio River watershed.
