Museum Reach
Combining Culture and Nature
The Museum Reach extends approximately four miles from Lexington Street downtown to Hildebrand Avenue on the northern border of Brackenridge Park. This reach is divided into two segments, the Urban Segment (from Lexington to Josephine Streets) and the Park Segment (from Josephine Street to Hildebrand Avenue).

Nicole Frugé, San Antonio Express-News
The Urban Segment, designed by Ford, Powell & Carson Architects and Planners, broke ground in May 2007. It is scheduled to be completed in May 2009.
The Park Segment of the Museum Reach will stretch from Josephine Street at the Pearl Brewery, where the new Barge Turning Basin will be located, to Hildebrand Avenue, extending the new linear park north to include the Witte Museum, Brackenridge Park, and the San Antonio Zoo. Final design and public funding are not yet complete, but private funds from the San Antonio River Foundation are estimated at $15 million.

San Antonio River Improvements Project (SARIP) Construction Facts
- Developments of the Urban Segment will double the length of the existing River Walk, bringing the distinctive San Antonio experience to an undeveloped section of the river to the north of downtown. While not at river level in this reach, new shops, galleries, and restaurants will be easily accessible.
- A Lock & Dam will make it possible for barges to travel from the downtown River Walk upstream to the new development at Pearl Brewery, with access to museums and other attractions along the way.
