Economic Impacts

Growth and Development

The San Antonio River Improvements Project (SARIP) is an estimated $250 million on-going investment by the City of San Antonio, Bexar County, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the San Antonio River Foundation in flood control, eco-system restoration, amenities, and recreational facilities along the San Antonio River.

Blue Star Arts Complex

In 2006, the San Antonio River Foundation retained Austin-based TXP Corporation, an international consulting firm, to assess the economic impacts and community development implications of this project. Major findings included:

  • New land use (residential, office, retail, hospitality, and open space) will increase the local tax base significantly.
  • The upgraded and lengthened linear river park will increase tourist visitation and dollars spent.
  • New residents and work force will be attracted by an improved quality of life.
  • 10,000 new permanent jobs will be created at project “build-out.”
