River Spectacular to be Featured at National Library Month Luncheon
Wendy Atwell, author of the San Antonio River Foundation's Book, The River Spectacular: Light, Sound, Color & Craft on the San Antonio River, is being featured next week at the New Braunfels Public Library Foundation Luncheon in celebration of National Library Month. Atwell, along with four other writers, will be speaking at the event on April 28th, which benefits the New Braunfels Public Library Foundation.
In The River Spectacular, Atwell chronicles the painting, sculpture, sound and light along the 1.3 mile Urban Segment of the winding Museum Reach north of downtown. Artworks along the river range from fiber optic cement to glimmering pieces of dichroic acrylic to the sounds of birds calling. The book was a collaboration of artistic talents that included author Wendy Weil Atwell, photographer Mark Menjivar, book contributor Andréa Caillouet, and publisher Lewis Fisher, who wrote the forward to the book. The book features dramatic color photographs and an audio CD of an original sound mix from Bill Fontana's Sonic Passage sound installation under Jones Avenue Bridge.
Available at Amazon.com and other local retailers, The River Spectacular retails for $38.95. Signed copies will be available at the luncheon for a special price, or contact the San Antonio River Foundation at (210) 224-2694.
