Event will Showcase Growth of Park and Offer Free Trees

On Thursday, October 20, the San Antonio River Foundation will be hosting “Connect with Confluence Park,” a free community event for residents to view the master plan for Confluence Park. The Park, located along the Mission Reach of the San Antonio River near its confluence with San Pedro Creek, is being developed by the San Antonio River Foundation into an educational complex complete with open park space, shady areas, water play area, amphitheater and eventually foundation offices. 

The event will allow neighbors to view and ask questions about the master plan. “We really want the community to feel a sense of ownership for this park that is reconnecting their neighborhoods to the River,” said Frates Seeligson, San Antonio River Foundation Board Chairman. The 2.4 acre community park will be developed in phases, with the first phase including tree and shrub planting and general greening of the space that for years sat as a construction yard. In honor of the first of many trees being planted in the park, the River Foundation will be giving away several species of native trees on a first-come, first-served basis.

Additional phasing will include a 2 story educational facility with observation deck, water feature and fitness equipment, outdoor educational classroom and office space, with construction scheduled to start in 2012.
