Abernethy Kim Abernethy is known as a dynamic fundraiser with over 20 years of experience in non-profit administration, management, grant writing, marketing, budget development, finance management, and program start-up. Ms. Abernethy joined the River Foundation in November, 2007 as Deputy Director, and was appointed Executive Director in June, 2008. Before joining the Foundation, she served as the Director of Development and Operations for more than six years at the Cibolo Nature Center in Boerne, Texas. The Nature Center, a 153-acre preserve with four distinct eco-systems, is the only public accessible parkland in Kendall County and is internationally recognized for its work. Each year, the CNC has more than 100,000 visitors, serves more than 4,000 school children from the San Antonio area, and provides educational programs to more than 1,200 landowners on conservation and preservation of the Texas Hill Country. The Nature Center is a leader in the Upper Cibolo Creek Watershed region in conservation, preservation, and research. Ms. Abernethy has lived in Texas all her life and hails from the Piney Woods of deep east Texas. She and her family have lived in the San Antonio region for the past 11 years after making their home in Houston for six years. Ms. Abernethy and her husband Robert have two grown children and live on 15 acres in Boerne, Texas, with their youngest daughter Sarah. Ms. Abernethy has served on several non-profit boards and most recently participated as a member of the Boerne Tourism Board, a mayoral appointed position. She has a degree in psychology from Sam Houston State University, with graduate studies at the University of Houston and Stephen F. Austin State University.
